News and Updates 26 August 2022

It’s been a few months since I last updated. Yeah, I know it’s been a while. Work picked up with the new job, and then with the way this country and the world has been spiraling into a dumpster, my mental health has not been in the best place. Things are starting to get better on a personal level, so it’s time to get back to blogging. What about writing? Oh, I haven’t stopped writing. I’ve got a few things in the works that will be discussed in the next few weeks in greater detail.

The Adventures of Sam Hain: Crossroad Blues Releases 25 October

The fourth book in my main series will be released on 25 October of this year (2022), just in time for Sam’s birthday. We’re staying close to home for this case, but this case will eventually lead to some major travel and some big changes in her priorities. I will be talking a lot about this in the coming weeks as well as sharing excerpts from the book as well.

Continuing with a dark turn, this book will show a clearer inspiration from the Southern Gothic genre as well as my love for creepypasta stories. I’ve hinted at this book’s antagonist in It Hungers, as well as his larger role in the series’ narrative and the world building. So, a few things in this book to look forward to:

·        A dark, rundown carnival with loads of greasy foods

·        A fist fight against a man in black to settle a family challenge

·        A glimpse into the workings of Hell

·        Nick Scratch (the Devil) calling in that blank check Sam Hain signed six years ago.

·        Learning more about what the Order of the Dragon and the Astrum Argentum are plotting

·        Sam Hain makes good on her promise to start therapy

·        Multiple sex scenes between Sam and Carmilla

·        Destiny and Justin discuss their relationship and Destiny’s demisexuality

Another R.S. Parker Romance, but Spicier!

So, as you know, I released a sweet, PG paranormal romance under the pen name R.S. Parker in June. Petals on the Page has been selling super well, especially since I haven’t done any real marketing of it. Since I had time before Crossroad Blues comes out, I’m writing another paranormal romance for that line that brings bits of dark academia into a fictional city in Louisiana. This one will bring in some historical and literary information, a missing manuscript, vampires, dhampir, and werewolves (particularly Rougarou). And this one will have some spice.

I admit that I planned the R.S. Parker line to be spice-free (or spicy like my wife likes her food, so spice free); however, writing a PG level romance was a challenge. I enjoyed the challenge, but I had to admit one simple fact by the end of the writing process. I’m too horny a person to keep writing spice free books. So, I’m four chapters into the draft, and there’s already one female masturbation scene. Yes, we do that. I’m changing how I pace the book from the last one, so we’ll see how things go. Look for that to be out sometime between October and November.

Sam Hain and the Dungeon of Destiny

This idea hit me while playing Tiny Tina’s Wonderland. Destiny Grimm plays Dungeons & Dragons, so I conceived the idea of a short piece where she convinces Sam, Carmilla, Martin, Nick Scratch, and Lilith to play a one-shot. The plan is to use the same structure as a Sam Hain novel, where each section starts with a first-person narrative from Sam’s POV. The third person sections will be told from the POV of Sam’s character as if the fantasy world is a “real world.” So, there will be the framing narrative of the D&D game night and the central narrative of the one shot.

I also plan to release a “Standard Edition” that has just the story as it unfolds and a “Special Edition” that has the story and the one shot for those who may want to play through the adventure. I also plan to split my royalties from the sale of this short piece 50/50 with Extra Life, a gaming charity that helps kids with cancer. This will probably be out sometime between November and December.

Unnamed Fantasy Adventure Serial Project

I’ve also got plans for an unnamed-as-of-yet fantasy serial that may be released on my website. I haven’t decided yet what to do with this idea. What I will be doing is taking the solo-rpg Her Odyssey and playing through a character’s journey, journaling each episode as it happens. I’ve commissioned character art for this character, so I will post more about the system and the story once I receive the art. I have no clue how this will turn out, but we will go on that journey together.

Final Words

So yeah, I’ve got quite a few projects for the upcoming months. I just wanted to update everyone on where things stand right now. I’m thinking about doing either a monthly or a biweekly livestream chat where I can talk about the books, upcoming projects, or just answer questions with y’all. I may also be streaming something like Stardew Valley during the time. But I will announce those at least a week ahead of time.
